"How often should I really be coming in?" is one of the most common questions we get — and there's a refreshingly simple answer, with a couple of fair-minded asterisks.
The general guideline
For most healthy adults and kids, a checkup and cleaning every six months is a good rhythm. Twice a year gives us a chance to catch the small things while they're still small, and to keep plaque and tartar from settling in where your toothbrush can't reach. It's also a chance for you to ask questions in a low-pressure setting.
When you might need to come more often
Some folks benefit from a three- or four-month interval. That can include people with active gum disease, a history of frequent cavities, dry mouth from medications, or certain health conditions like diabetes. Smokers and people in orthodontic treatment often do better with shorter intervals too. If that's you, we'll tell you straight — and explain why.
What a routine visit actually catches
A regular checkup is doing more than polishing your teeth. We're looking for early cavities, signs of gum inflammation, cracked or worn teeth, bite issues, and the kinds of subtle changes in your gum tissue that can flag bigger concerns. Catching any of these early almost always means simpler, cheaper, more comfortable treatment.
If it's been a while — no judgment
If your last cleaning was five years ago (or longer), please don't put it off another month over embarrassment. We genuinely don't care how long it's been; we care about getting you healthy from here. A "we're back at it" visit is a normal, kind, judgment-free appointment.
