How Invisalign works at Old Betsy

From scan to final smile.

  1. Free consult + digital scan. We take a quick, no-goop 3D scan of your teeth and show you a preview of what's possible. You see the projected outcome before you commit a dollar.
  2. Personalized treatment plan. We map out the number of trays, an estimated timeline, and a clear written cost — with financing options laid out.
  3. Aligners delivered. Each set of trays is worn 20–22 hours per day for 1–2 weeks, then you swap to the next. We send you home with everything you need.
  4. Quick check-ins every 6–10 weeks. Short visits to confirm progress and hand off the next batch of trays. Many days you'll just stop by — no chair time needed.
  5. Refinements as needed. If a tooth doesn't track quite right, we re-scan and add a short series of refinement trays — that's normal, planned for, and almost always part of getting to a final result you love.
  6. Retainers for keeps. Active treatment ends with custom retainers worn nights indefinitely. This is the difference between a smile that lasts and one that drifts back.

Invisalign vs. traditional braces

An honest side-by-side.

Both work. Neither is universally better. Here's how the two actually compare on the things patients care about — so you can decide what fits your life.

For very complex bite or jaw-position cases, traditional braces — or a referral to an orthodontist — sometimes remains the right call. We'll tell you straight at your consult.

Candidacy · what we look at

Most people qualify. Some don't — we'll tell you.

  • Crowding — from mild to fairly significant, Invisalign handles most of it.
  • Spacing & gaps — closing small to moderate gaps is a common Invisalign case.
  • Relapse after old braces — a very common reason adults come in.
  • Mild-to-moderate bite issues — many overbites, underbites, and crossbites can be improved.
  • Healthy gums and supporting bone — required before any tooth movement starts. If gum disease is present, we treat that first.
  • You'll wear them as directed — Invisalign only works if it's actually in your mouth 20–22 hours a day. Honest about that with yourself? You're a candidate.

We're general dentists, not orthodontists. Invisalign is part of general dentistry, and we've planned and delivered many cases — but for cases outside our scope, we'll refer you out. No false promises.

Cost & financing

A clear number, then a payment that works.

Invisalign cost depends on the case — simple relapse to a full bite correction covers a wide range. At your free consult we give you a written estimate, verify any orthodontic insurance benefits, and walk through monthly payments through Cherry, CareCredit, Alphaeon Credit, and our other financing partners. FAQ · Invisalign

Questions before starting treatment.

Who is a good candidate for Invisalign?

Most adults and teens with crowding, spacing, mild-to-moderate bite issues, or relapse after old braces are good candidates. Very complex bites or jaw-position cases sometimes still call for traditional braces or a referral to an orthodontist — we'll tell you straight at your consult. The starting point is a free Invisalign consult with a digital scan so we can show you what the case actually looks like.

How long does Invisalign take?

Most cases take about 6 to 18 months, depending on how much movement is needed and how consistently you wear the aligners. Simple cases (small relapse, mild crowding) can finish in as little as a few months. Complex cases run longer. We give you an honest estimated timeline at your consult — and we update it if your teeth move faster or slower than planned.

How much does Invisalign cost?

Cost depends on case complexity — number of aligners, whether refinements are needed, and any attachments. You'll get a clear written estimate at your free consult, with no pressure. We work with Cherry, CareCredit, Alphaeon Credit, and other financing partners so most patients can spread treatment into a comfortable monthly payment.

Does insurance cover Invisalign?

Many dental plans that cover orthodontics treat Invisalign the same as braces, often with a lifetime orthodontic maximum. Coverage depends entirely on your specific plan — some cover 50%, some don't cover adults, some only cover children. We verify benefits before treatment starts so you know exactly what to expect.

Do I have to wear my aligners all the time?

Yes — 20 to 22 hours per day is the rule for the aligners to actually move your teeth on schedule. You take them out to eat, drink anything other than water, brush, and floss. Skipping that wear time is the single most common reason cases stall or extend. After active treatment, you'll wear retainers indefinitely to keep the result — start with nights, taper as we direct.

Does Invisalign hurt?

Most patients describe the first day or two of each new aligner as 'tight' or 'achy' rather than painful — your teeth are gently moving. The discomfort typically fades within 24–48 hours of starting each new tray. Over-the-counter pain relievers help if needed. If anything feels sharp or pinches, call us — that usually means a quick smoothing of an attachment fixes it.

Can I get Invisalign if I had braces as a kid?

Often yes — and this is one of the most common reasons adults come in. Teeth shift over time, especially if retainers were stopped years ago. Invisalign is a comfortable, discreet way to clean up that relapse without going back to brackets and wires.
