Got a Big Implant Quote? When a Second Opinion Makes Sense

·By Old Betsy Dental

If you've sat through an implant consultation and walked out with a quote that made your stomach drop — or a plan to remove all your teeth, or a feeling that you were being rushed — you're not alone, and you're not stuck. A second opinion on a decision this big isn't second-guessing. It's exactly what a careful person should do.

The most important reason: your teeth may be saveable.

Here's something we see all the time — patients planned for full upper-and-lower extractions whose natural teeth could actually have been saved. Full extractions are irreversible, and a center that only does implants has every reason to plan the biggest case and none to save a tooth. Before you agree to remove everything, it's worth having a full-suite dental practice — one that does general dentistry and implants — take an honest look. Because we can do either, we have no reason to over-treat: if your teeth can be saved, we'll tell you, and we can do that work right here.

Why quotes vary so much

Two offices can look at the same mouth and land on very different plans and prices. The reasons are usually straightforward: different treatment philosophies (save teeth vs. remove them), different materials (acrylic vs. zirconia), different ideas about how many implants you need, what's included in the price, and whether the work is done in one office or split between two. Full-arch pricing in Texas spans a wide $18,000–$38,000 per-arch range for exactly these reasons — so a single quote rarely tells the whole story.

When a second opinion especially makes sense

  • You were told you need all your teeth removed.
  • You felt pressured to decide on the spot. A good office gives you room to think.
  • The number is very large, and you want to know it's right before committing.
  • You were quoted a plan you don't fully understand.
  • You simply want peace of mind that the plan you've been given is the right one.

What a good second opinion looks like

You should get a fresh 3D scan, a plain-language explanation of your options — including whether your natural teeth can be saved — and an honest recommendation, with no pressure to proceed. Sometimes a second opinion confirms the plan you already have, and you move forward feeling confident. Sometimes it surfaces a simpler, less drastic, or more affordable path. Either way, you win.

What to bring

Your existing treatment plan or quote, any X-rays or scans you have, and a written list of every question you're unsure about.

A calmer, more complete kind of consultation

At Old Betsy, a second opinion is just a conversation. We're a full-suite hometown dental practice — not a sales floor — so we'll tell you honestly what we'd recommend, including whether your teeth can be saved. For implant cases, we do same-day teeth with our own 3D imaging and milling lab, place implants with Navident guided navigation for accuracy, have a dedicated anesthesia provider overseeing sedation, and care for you long-term, in-house — no handing you off after surgery. Financing is available and we bill medical for some procedures. There's no obligation to move forward with us.

If you've got a quote in hand, request your free second opinion or call us at (817) 476-4537. Bring your plan, your questions, and we'll give you the honest truth.
