"How much does an implant cost?" is one of the most common questions we hear — and the most honest answer is: it depends on what you actually need. Anyone who quotes you a single all-in number sight-unseen is guessing. Here's what really goes into the price, so you can have a clear-eyed conversation with any office you visit.
What you're really paying for
A "dental implant" is actually three things working together:
- The implant itself — the small titanium post placed into your jawbone.
- The abutment — the connector piece that sits on top of the implant.
- The crown (or bridge, or full-arch bridge) — the visible tooth that attaches to the abutment.
Different offices quote these separately or together, which is part of why apples-to-apples comparison is hard.
The factors that drive cost
- How many teeth. One tooth, a small bridge supported by two implants, or a full arch (like All-on-4) are very different cases.
- Whether you need a tooth removed first. Extractions add to the plan.
- Bone grafting or sinus work. If there isn't enough healthy bone to anchor an implant, we may need to build it up first.
- Materials. Crown material (zirconia vs. other options) affects durability and price.
- Sedation. Optional, but often welcomed for larger cases.
- Planning and imaging. A guided implant placement uses a 3D scan and a custom surgical guide, which improves precision.
How it compares to the alternatives
A traditional denture is usually the lowest upfront investment. A bridge sits in the middle. A single implant is generally more upfront than a bridge but doesn't grind down neighboring teeth and tends to last a long time when cared for. Full-arch implants (All-on-4) are a bigger upfront step than a denture, but for a lot of patients they replace years of denture adjustments, relines, and discomfort.
Insurance, financing, and our plan
Many dental plans contribute toward the crown portion or part of the surgical fees, but coverage varies a lot — we verify yours before you commit. In some cases, parts of an implant case can even be billed to medical insurance, and we check that too so nothing you're entitled to gets left on the table. For larger cases, several financing partners (Cherry, CareCredit, Alphaeon, Proceed Finance, and others) can break the plan into monthly payments, and our in-house membership plan offers meaningful discounts for patients without insurance.
