Losing teeth, whether it's one or many, can feel like a quiet kind of grief. The good news: you have real, modern options for getting your smile and your bite back. Here's an honest, side-by-side look at the main paths.
Dental bridges
A bridge fills the gap left by one or a few missing teeth by anchoring replacement teeth to the natural teeth on either side. They're well-established, look good, and don't require surgery. The trade-off is that the anchor teeth need to be shaped down to hold the bridge, which means committing those teeth to the work. Bridges also need a little extra care to keep the gum tissue underneath them healthy.
Traditional dentures
Removable dentures replace a full arch of teeth (or a partial arch, with a partial denture). They're the most affordable upfront option, can be made beautifully, and don't require surgery. The trade-offs are real, though: they rest on the gums, can shift while you eat or talk (especially on the lower jaw), and don't stop the gradual jawbone shrinkage that comes with tooth loss.
Snap-in (implant-supported) dentures
A middle path: a removable denture that clips firmly onto a few implants. You take it out at night, but during the day it stays put, doesn't rock, and gives you back a confident bite. Because it's anchored to implants, it also helps slow jawbone shrinkage. More upfront investment than a traditional denture, less than a fully fixed set.
Fixed full-arch (All-on-4 / All-on-X)
A permanent set of teeth, anchored to a handful of implants and never removed. This is the closest a modern solution gets to the feel of your own teeth — you brush and floss like normal, you eat what you want, and they don't come out. The investment is the highest upfront, but for many patients it replaces a lifetime of denture adjustments and discomfort.
So how do you choose?
The honest answer comes from looking at four things together:
- How many teeth are missing, and where.
- Your jawbone — how much healthy bone you have to work with.
- Your goals — do you want something that comes out, or something that stays?
- Your budget, including financing if you want it.
There isn't a single "best" option. There's a best option for you, and a good office will lay them all out side by side instead of steering you toward whichever one they like to do most.
