Same-Day Dentures: How We Make Them in One Visit

·By Dr. Argyle

One of the most common questions we hear from new denture patients is, "How long is this going to take?" In a traditional practice, it's weeks: impressions go to a lab in another state, you wait, the case comes back, you adjust, and so on. At our Keene implant center, the answer is different — most of the time, it's one visit.

How we pull it off

We make dentures right here in the building, using an Ivoclar Programill PM7 milling machine. That's a precision dental mill designed specifically for crown-and-bridge and denture work. Paired with our 3D scanners and design software, it lets us go from "let's plan your denture" to "here's your finished denture" the same day, for the right cases.

What the day looks like

  • A friendly conversation about what you want — fit, look, tooth shape, smile shape.
  • Digital scans and photos, plus a careful bite registration.
  • We design your denture on-screen, you weigh in on the look, and the mill goes to work.
  • Final fitting and adjustments before you head home.

You're in the chair for the parts that matter, and the mill does the rest while you have lunch.

Why "in-house" matters

When a case ships to an outside lab, every tweak takes another round trip. In-house means we can adjust on the spot — shave a little here, polish a little there — until your bite feels right and your smile looks like you. That kind of fine-tuning is what separates a denture that feels okay from one you forget you're wearing.

Who's a candidate

Most patients who need a full or partial denture, an immediate denture after extractions, or a replacement for an older denture are good candidates for the same-day process. Implant-supported dentures (the snap-in kind) typically involve healing time between visits, but we still mill the denture itself in-house, so turnaround is faster than the traditional route.

What if more time is the better call?

Sometimes it is — and we'll tell you that honestly. Complex cases, significant gum changes after extractions, or a particular aesthetic goal may call for staged appointments. Same-day is a tool, not a promise; the right fit for you is the priority.
